Occupational

Occupational covers both the work and the way the work is done. A flat score here is sometimes about the job and very often about the shape of the day around it — where the hard thing sits, and what gets to interrupt it.

What it covers

  • The work itself: what it is, and whether it's the right work
  • Where the hard thing sits in your day
  • Boundaries: start, stop, and what counts as urgent
  • Progress on the big pieces, not just the responsive ones
  • Recognition, growth, and the next step

When it's flat

  • The day is full and the important work didn't move.
  • Work ends when energy ends, not when the day does.
  • Everything is a priority, so the loudest wins.
  • You can't name what moved forward this month.

None of this is a failing. It's a description of a dimension nobody has had time to design yet.

How to design a system here

  1. 01

    Put the hard thing first

One block, before the inbox, on most days. This single change moves more than any tool.

  2. 02

Give the week one visible priority

Named on Monday, reviewed on Friday. A week with one priority finishes something; a week with six finishes nothing.

  3. 03

Define the end of the day

A stop time makes the start time honest. Without it, work expands to fill every unclaimed hour.

A season built here

Daily anchor

The hard thing first, before anything else opens.

Goals

  • One named priority carried through each week
  • A protected first block on most weekdays
  • A defined stop time on weeknights

Weekly rhythm

  • Mon Name the week's one priority
  • Fri Close the week — what moved, what didn't
